Who Needs a Sump Pump and Why is it Important?

In short, nearly everyone needs a sump pump. The job of a sump pump is to remove water and moisture from a basement, and many people are under the misconception that sump pumps are only for those who have had a flooded basement before, or live in an area where basement flooding is common.

The relatively low cost of installing a sump pump offers added peace of mind. We strongly recommend that those who have ever had a moisture problem in the basement of their property have a sump pump installed as soon as possible. Even if you haven’t had moisture problems before, we recommend a sump pump as a preventative measure for any moisture issues. Installing a sump pump can potentially save you thousands of dollars in home repair costs, not to mention the cost of replacing washing machines, furnaces, and other equipment kept in the basement. Of course, many people also store irreplaceable items in their basements, such as photo albums and keepsakes. Don’t let the unknown threaten your valuables! We will help you install a protective system that will keep water at bay!

What are the Different Types of Sump Pumps?

There are three major types of sump pumps available: conventional, battery backup, and combination. Each pump may be either elevated or submersible, with elevated pumps sitting above the sump basin and submersible pumps sitting inside of it.

The conventional pump is an electrically powered pump that is connected to the home’s power supply.

The battery backup pump, as the name implies, has a battery that is continuously charged by the home’s electricity, and will take over for the main pump in case of a power outage.

The combination pump combines these two concepts, usually with a battery backup system for a conventional pump.

Whatever your specific needs are, we can help you decide which pump is best and take care of the installation for you.

How Messy is the Installation Process?

The installation is actually very simple. A hole is dug in the foundation of the basement and gravel is poured in, partly filling the hole. On top of and inside of the gravel sits a basin containing the sump pump; this basin allows water to collect and be removed by the sump pump. The basin is then secured to the home’s foundation and the pump connected to power–and the process is complete!

Don’t get caught without proper protection from the elements. A sump pump is essential for any homeowner. Contact us today at (516) 671-3232 to discuss having yours installed!
